Sometime in 1980’s, in early childhood papa told me Tata’s are building social or public infrastructure like road, electricity, hospital, school like amenities near their steel factory for people. At the age of 7 or 8 I don’t have understanding that corporates are meant of their profit irrespective of condition of employees & Tata’s belongs to different class.
In early 2000 I had assignment job with small company, which was part of TACO (Tata AutoComp Systems Limited). One day in morning I heard Ratan Tata is visiting factory. I was very surprised why he is visiting such a small company. Later on I heard he is on shop-floor. During lunch break in canteen I come to know that he had lunch in the same canteen we used have lunch. It again surprise me how he can have lunch in canteen made for workers & employees.
Being interest in stock market I used read new & development in companies. Tata Nano project in West Bengal was very much in news. When Tata decided to move project out of Singur I read statement by Ratan Tata. He mentioned “ We do not, however, believe that in any way we have lost our enthusiasm for investment in West Bengal and I can assure you that Tatas, in course of time, will include West Bengal in locating projects in future” It wonder for me that someone close down his business worth 1500 crore (A very big amount in 2008) and how he still can be kind and compassionate to them
At 26 11 Taj Mahal Palace employees risk or gave their life to save guests of hotel. Still today It’s difficult for me to understand moral or mental attitude or behavior of employees. There is no parallel example in history of this kind. Ratan Tata personally tirelessly visited each employees home for next few days.
I used to follow him on Twitter. I read on internet that he on Instagram so I opened an account on Instagram to follow him.
I thought of having an an organized charity under Tata umbrella & tried to reach him but did not happen.
I was planning of visiting NCPA Lawns, but it did not materialize. Guess not all desires are suppose to fulfil in life.
I am not sad or depressed but proud to be part of an era of Sir Ratan Tata.
